On October 20th, His Holiness the Dalai Lama issued a special video message highlighting the situation in Tibet and calling calling for action on climate change at COP21, the United Nations’ Climate Change Conference in Paris starting on November 30th.
The Dalai Lama’s spoke out as part of the Tibetan Government-in-Exile’s new campaign called “Tibet: Climate Action for the Roof of the World”, saying that “the environment is the responsibility of the entire humanity.”
His Holiness the Dalai Lama called attention to the ecological condition of the Tibetan Plateau, described by scientists as the Third Pole. According to a press release by the Tibetan Government-in-Exile, the Tibetan plateau, with 46,000 glaciers, is experiencing global warming at a rate of three times the global average.
